At The Gait Center, our therapists are committed to helping our patients with limb loss not only return to walking but return to a level of activity that provides a meaningful quality of life. We work closely with all of the prosthetists in the greater Richmond area to ensure your device is fitting well and is functioning at the level you need to restore your quality of life. Through constant communication and co-treatment with Richmond's prosthetists, we have developed a trusted partnership that enables patients to thrive.
The team of therapists at The Gait Center are experts in the field of gait training - teaching patients to walk again. They have all received advanced training in prosthetic rehabilitation and are exceptional at teaching patients how to fit and care for their prosthesis and residual limb, safely transfer to different positions, balance and confidently walk with their prosthesis indoors, outdoors, and on stairs, ramps, and curbs, and return to a way of life similar to what the patient enjoyed before the amputation. The therapist's number one goal is to develop the best level of physical and emotional function that the patient can achieve.
The Gait Center also provides a facility and a community that supports our patients’ rehabilitation process. We have peer mentors of all ages and abilities willing to answer questions and support our patients’ journeys. We are active with Richmond's Amputee Support Group and hold amputee specific events at our clinic. The community and support found at The Gait Center, for those with limb loss, has developed into something very special.
