gait assessment

gait assessment & testing

In providing an excellent standard of care, our clinicians utilize walking analyses as well as a variety of tests and measures to accurately assess your mobility. These tools help to identify any difficulties in your movement, communicate those elements to you, and track your progress throughout the course of treatment. You might be thinking, what do these look like?
Gait Assessment:In the first visit, your therapist will perform an assessment of your walking. Often this is an observation, employing a systematic approach to analyze each and every part of your body and how your walking compares to a normal pattern. This is always tailored to the patient so that your therapist is able to observe the elements of your walking that are most difficult for you. We also utilize video analyses for cases involving a more complex pathology, where we will record your walking or running and review it in slow motion to identify impairments that may not be visible in real time. However these assessments are performed, they offer great insight into your mobility.
Tests and Measures:When you visit a physical therapist, you should expect that they use the latest research in order to help them effectively diagnose your walking limitations and track your progress in an effective way. At The Gait Center, this is exactly what you will experience. From your first day, we will perform a series of research backed tests and measures that offer a diverse look at your mobility. As your treatment progresses, we re-test these elements to show real progress and not just an opinion. We want you to know what is wrong, how to fix it, and how you’re doing in your journey to moving better.
